Lot and heat-number traceability, from carton to raw material

eManage traceability carries an identity on material from the moment it arrives: a yarn lot, a dye batch, a heat number or a bundle. Every issue, process, job-work movement, inspection and dispatch records which lots went in and which came out, so you can trace a complaint backwards from a carton to the raw material, or forwards from a suspect raw lot to every customer who received it.

THE PROBLEM

What goes wrong before eManage

The same gaps show up in plant after plant, long before anyone calls them a system problem.

Complaints traced by memory

When a customer complains, finding which lot or heat it came from takes days.

Lots lost at job workers

Identity breaks when material goes out for processing and comes back mixed.

Audits answered by hand

OEM, RDSO or export audits need traceability assembled from paper.

Recalls too wide

Without a forward trace, a suspect raw lot means recalling far more than necessary.

WHAT IT COVERS

Everything eManage lot & heat traceability covers

Identify

An identity on every lot from receipt

Traceability starts at the store: the lot, heat or batch is recorded with its certificate as it arrives.

  • Lot, heat and batch on GRNRecorded from the supplier tag or mill certificate at receipt.
  • Certificates attachedMill test certificates and supplier reports stored on the lot.
  • Labels and tagsBarcode or QR tags printed so the identity is scanned, not copied.
  • Split and merge rulesWhen lots are split or combined, the parent lots are kept on record.
  • Shade, count and gradeProcess-specific attributes travel with the lot.

Carry

Identity carried through every step

Each process records the lots consumed and the lots produced, including at outside processors.

  • Process consumptionJob cards record which input lots were used.
  • Job-work continuityChallans and receipts keep the lot identity across processors.
  • Inspection on the lotResults and decisions attached to the lot they apply to.
  • Packing by lotCartons and packing lists show which lots they contain.
  • Dispatch recordInvoices list the lots shipped to each customer.

Trace

Backward and forward trace in seconds

Because every step is linked, a trace is a query, not an investigation.

  • Backward traceFrom an invoice or carton to every lot, process and raw material behind it.
  • Forward traceFrom a raw lot or heat to every customer and invoice that received it.
  • Certificate packsTest and inspection documents for a shipment printed together.
  • Targeted holdsHold only the lots affected by a suspect input.
  • Audit trailWho did what, when, on every document in the chain.

ON THE FLOOR

How it works in eManage, step by step

Every step adds to the same chain, so nothing has to be reconstructed later.

  1. Receive. The lot or heat is recorded at GRN with its certificate.
  2. Issue. Production and job work consume lots by scanning tags.
  3. Process. Output lots are created with links to their inputs.
  4. Inspect. Results attach to the lot and decide whether it moves on.
  5. Pack and ship. Cartons and invoices record which lots were sent where.
  6. Trace. Any lot is traced backward or forward from a single screen.

FAQ

Questions about eManage lot & heat traceability

Something specific to your plant? Ask an implementation lead.

What is lot traceability in manufacturing?

The ability to follow material by its lot, batch or heat identity through every process to the customer, and back again, using recorded links rather than memory.

What is heat number traceability?

Carrying the steel melt identifier from the mill certificate onto every part made from that material, so each part can be linked to its chemical and mechanical test results.

Does traceability survive job work?

Yes. Challans and receipts in eManage carry the lot identity, so material processed outside keeps its link to the original lot.

How fast is a trace?

Once lots are recorded at each step, backward and forward traces are reports that run in seconds.

Which industries need it most?

Railway and auto components, fasteners, dyeing and spinning, and any exporter whose buyers audit their supply chain.
